Wind farm operations

BazeField is breaking new grounds in delivering a turn-key, turbine independant system for multi-site wind park operations.

Wind farm operation is a low cost operation. The power resource is beyond control. To excel in this business you need to operate leanly, collaborate for accuracy and efficiency and apply work processes and standards that allow you to streamline and benchmark. When wind farms go offshore this is even more important. BazeField takes the concepts of “Integrated Operations” from the oil business into wind farm operations.

BazeField wind farm operations system

BazeField is a standardised software system to run multi-site wind farming operations, capturing the real-time data from the turbines, weather forecasts, optimise production vs. maintenance in order to produce nomination prognoses with high degree of accuracy.

BazeField wind farm operations system comes in four modules:

  • Monitoring. Turbines are connected via our IEC61400-25 model in order to represent all turbines coherently. Data is stored in the historical database and is visualised in map view and as trends,graphs and numbers. Preconfigured reports summarises energy production and performances.
  • Analysis. The Analysis module allows the wind farm personnel’s expertise and knowledge to be applied by supplying a series of tools for analysis of performance inside tubines, across turbines and across sites. Stop analyser tool to capture and automatically categorise turbine stops according to RDS-PP. Loss analyser tool to analyse and understand production losses and downtime.
  • Operations Management. The Operations Management module facilitates best practice collaboration on operations, daily and weekly decision meetings and nomination.
  • Expert. BazeField has powerful functionality for research purposes. High frequency sampling of up to 25 Hz and tools for extracting data to MatLab makes it valuable in research context.

The aim of the software is to implement a systematic way of working in wind farming. By setting the right key performance indicators and supporting the entire organisation along the value chain of wind farming, from weather forecasts to nomination into the market, BazeField is a system that glues together the entire operation, making live data available for reporting, analysis, performance management and collaboration. The system is turbine independent and built using latest international standards IEC61440-25 and RDS-PP.

As chosen by Statoil

Statoil will use BazeField to secure a fact based way of operating Statoil’s wind farm operations as safe and efficient as possible.

– Wind turbine operation is technically challenging and a low cost operation and effective and streamlined work processes is a must for staying competitive in this market, says Statoil project manager Sverre Trollnes. 

– This is even more so when we expand our operations offshore. And Baze Technology has proven to have the competence needed and software that will enable us to operate our turbines as best in class.

BazeField is implemented at Havøygavlen, where Statoil owns 16 wind turbines (15 Nordex and 1 Siemens 3MW DD). At Havøygavlen in Måsøy municipality in Northern Norway Statoil is carrying out the world’s northernmost wind power project. The wind power project includes 16 wind turbines with a total annual electric power production of around 120 Giga Watt hours (GWh), corresponding to the annual consumption of 5,000-6,000 Norwegian homes. With an average annual wind speed of more than nine metres per second, this is one of the most suitable areas in Europe for wind power production.

Mapping out industry work processes

Baze Technology, Statoil and Statkraft joined forces under the leadership of the consultancy CPI to map out the value chain, critical processes and fact based way of working for their wind farm operations. Valuable contributions are given by SINTEF and the Dutch ECN Wind Energy. BazeField® integrates into the organisation to fully support this way of working, giving as safe and efficient operation as possible.

Work Process oriented

BazeField covers all aspects of the value chain in operating multiple wind farm sites in collaboration with central support teams– all combined in one coherent package.

Measuring performance

All processes are measured against planned targets and used as steering parameters for the operations.

Turbine vendor independent

A wind turbine is a generic object in BazeField, based on IEC 61400-25 definitions. All turbines are represented coherently and dashboards and displays are preconfigured. This allows for swift and efficient implementation and configuration at the customer sites.
