New offline services for VSAT users
BazePort Content Services to solve traffic jam on low bandwidth. Introducing Movies, TV and Music without a connection.
Scheduled for September Baze Technology will release a new service for their BazePort infotainment system, named BazePort Content Services (BCS). BCS will provide several new services that will solve the difficulties in transferring files on low bandwidth.
Our customers have reported an increased need for transferring updated content such as PDF, Power Points presentations and films containing handbooks, safety information and training documents. A tool like BazePort allows for providing crew with more and updated information, but that information must be provided by someone, says Thorstein Rinker, VP Business Development in Baze Technology.
We have used our extensive experience from doing integrated operations for FPSOs over VSAT lines, and built a service that will utilize spare VSAT capacity. BCS user will be given their own online BazePort homepage where they can upload all kinds of content, Rinker continues.
BCS allows Ship owners, crew managements, and operators to upload content from shore to ship without jamming their already crowded VSAT line. Files uploaded are compressed and cued up for transfer. By using BITS technology and only available spare bandwidth on the ships VSAT link the transfer of the files is done in the background, not getting priority over other more critical communication. Lost signals and bad connections will not interfere as BazePort Content Services will restart transfer from where it was terminated. No restart of transfer or resend necessary.
We are very excited about the possibilities this opens for our BazePort users, says Rinker. And we will launch several new services this fall. Such as TV and Podcast services, movie rental, music on demand and remote BazePort maintenance.
